

Merry-go-round artists
The group of artists who have produced images for the cards have reflected
on the theme of "earth- love". They are celebrating the beauty
of the earth and reminding us of our own connection to it.

Earth-love Flamingos (detail) - Patricia Mullens

The brilliant pink Lesser Flamingo is adapted to breed on the alkaline
soda lakes of east Africa. Patricia Mullins’ collage suggests this
habitat while also capturing the humour and solidarity that humans observe
in these exotic birds.

Tree-flower (detail) - Shaun Tan

These images were originally produced as
part of an extended picture book, 'The Arrival', which is about an immigrant's
experiences in a strange, fictional country. Here we see the passing of
seasons is a way that is both familiar and strange, and more broadly relates
to cycles of birth, life and death, and how those come to be accepted.

the world. They are markers of gods, knowledge, wisdom and fertility as
well as death, famine and destruction. They are loved, feared, celebrated
and even hated. Man ... it’s alot for the owl to bear. They deserve
to be immortalised with enamel and shellac on mdf. - Darren Henderson.
Darren is a Melbourne artist who currently runs design studio Dirtygood
and is a partner in The Autopsy Gallery.
